Photographer Wendy Aldiss joins us to present her deeply personal and extensive project Burma Veterans, begun in 2015 to mark the 70th anniversary of VJ Day.Inspired in part by her own father, who served with the 14th Army, 2nd Division in Burma during the Second World War, Wendy travelled extensively across Britain to meet and photograph surviving veterans, aged between 88 and 105 at the time. Her journey also took her to Burma (now Myanmar), where she photographed Karen veterans who had supported the Allied forces.Over the course of the project Wendy met and photographed more than 200 people. Alongside her portraits, she recorded veterans within their homes and photographed wartime possessions, documents and personal memorabilia, creating a rich visual record in which individual lives, objects and memories become part of a much wider historical narrative.

Wendy will share the photographs, journeys and personal encounters behind this remarkable long-term body of work.
