Toby Dibble – The Documentary Imperative

Toby Dibble is a documentary photographer currently completing his Master’s degree in Photojournalism & Documentary Photography.His recent work, ‘Growing Community’ includes a project exploring food, farming and the people whose lives are connected by it.His interests extend across film making, portraiture, documentary and adventure photography, exploring the variety of ways photography can be used to tell stories about people, places and contemporary life.
In The Documentary Imperative, Toby will share his passion for photography and photojournalism, introducing some of his projects, to share with us insights into the research and approach behind documentary work.
The talk will also explore the moral and artistic responsibilities of photographers when representing real people and events. Drawing on historical examples as well as recent work, Toby will consider how photographers can approach a story in a way that is respectful, researched and representative, while still allowing for personal creativity.
